Prominent English philosopher and sociologist (1820-1903). ALS, two black-bordered pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7.25, July 15, 1867. Letter to Dr. Sharpey. In part: “I have recently been devising an invalid bed—originally for the use of a member of my own family. It answers so well that I have had a second made, with the view of letting it be seen, and if approved, adopted for general use. The peculiarity is that besides the movements of a fracture bed, the whole framework is supported on a large ball-and-socket joint.” In fine condition.
