American writer (1849–1923) known for his poems, ‘prose pastorals,’ and nonfiction books entitled Indian Wars of New England and Maine Pioneer Settlements. Original 4 x 6.5 cabinet photo by B. Frank Hatstat of Boston, signed and inscribed at the bottom of the image and lower border in black ink, “Compliments of Herbert Milton Sylvester.” In fine condition, with light soiling to the lower border and moderate contrast to the inscription.
