Vintage pearl-finish 9.25 x 12 John De Mirjian photo of the couple as they appeared in the 1927–28 Broadway hit The High Road, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To that scoundrel Murray from Edna Best,” and “Mind that right arm, Murray, Herbert Marshall ‘Bart.’” Lower right bears a white ink notation from the De Mirjian studio. Matted to an overall size of 12 x 16. In fine condition, with a few light bends and surface impressions and some irregular ink adhesion to Marshall’s signature. In 1925, de Mirjian became a photographic celebrity when actress Louise Brooks sued to stop his distribution of nude photos taken of her prior to her successful career.
