British military officer and statesman (1850–1916) who served as Victoria’s aide-de-camp in Sudan, commanded the British forces during the Boer War, and was appointed secretary of state for war at the outbreak of World War I. ALS signed “Kitchener,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 7, Whitehall Court letterhead, June 2, no year. Letter to Jack, in part: “Herewith the cheque for Sullivan—How are you sending the glass it must travel carefully & I am in no hurry but I should not like it to be all smashed…If you can find someone coming over you might send the glass in charge so as to be carefully handled.” In fine condition.
