Three items signed by Kitchener, including two ALSs (both signed "H. H. Kitchener") and an ink signature, "Kitchener of Khartoum," on an off-white slip. The first letter, dated September 12, 1885, in part: "Long live the Pasha. May your excellency enjoy every bliss and flourish like the palm in which the doves sit & sing their love songs…Sir D. Wolff has all Egypt in hand so that I have heard nothing but rumours," with some further commentary on Isma'il Pasha. The second letter, dated August 18, 1886, in part: "You have probably heard that I am to replace you at Souakin…The way it came about was on my arrival at Suez ald West came on board with a telegram stating H.M. Gov't wanted to know if I would accept Souakin & if so to wire to Wolff. I asked about you but could find out nothing and I felt sure you had resigned so I wired yes." In fine condition, with rusty paperclip marks to the tops of the letters. Accompanied by one original mailing envelope.
