TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, November 16, 1932. One week after losing the 1932 presidential election Hoover writes to William Sturgis of Chicago; “I have been deeply touched by the thousands of messages from friends who, like yourself, have loyally supported my efforts, have given me so much friendship, and have been moved by personal warmth of understanding to send me a cheering word of greeting. I am indeed grateful for it.” Letter is archivally sleeved in acid-free Mylar. In fine condition. Hoover lost the election to Franklin Roosevelt by a 17 percent margin, the largest ever margin of defeat by an incumbent president to date
