Two first edition books: America's First Crusade, hardcover without dust jacket, signed and inscribed on the first free end page in fountain pen to noted conservative politician Robert A. Taft, "To my good friend Robert A. Taft, from Herbert Hoover"; and Fishing for Fun, hardcover with dust jacket, signed on the half-title page in black felt tip, "The good wishes of Herbert Hoover," with an inscription, "To Elliot Hass," in another hand. In overall fine condition, with a small tear to the spine of America's First Crusade.

During World War I, the young Robert A. Taft joined the legal staff of the Food and Drug Administration, where he was introduced to Hoover. Hoover became his idol, and in 1918–1919, Taft went overseas to Paris as part of Hoover's American Relief Administration, which was distributing food throughout Europe. Taft would go on to rise through the Republican Party, becoming Senate Majority Leader for a period in 1953.
