<B>Herbert Hoover Typed Letter with Rubber Stamp Signature.</B></I> One page, 7" x 10", Herbert Hoover letterhead, March 1, 1921, to J. Mitchel Thorsen. This letter is regarding a story entitled "The Madonna of the Hungry Child" about famine that appeared in Cosmopolitan Magazine. At the time the letter was written, Hoover was involved with several groups that organized shipments of food for millions of starving people in Europe. In the letter he notes that "famine is an abstract thing to our people. We have never seen or felt its realities."
