Herbert Hoover: A Highly Unusual Large Die-Cut Cardboard Display Piece, with Easel Back as Made. This remarkable piece advertises and was then used on a special train which carried Hoover supporters from his birthplace, West Branch, Iowa, to the 1929 inauguration in Washington. It is accompanied by a reprint of an original photo depicting badge-wearing supporters standing in front of a car from that train, with a clearly visible example of this sign (perhaps this very one!) looking out from a window. The lot also includes a menu from this "Inauguration special" with portraits of Hoover and George Washington above the White House on the cover. Other than posters, large display items of this era are deceptively rare, probably because few were saved. This colorful specimen, especially with the items accompanying it, represents in our opinion one of the nicer large political display items from that period. Condition is great except for one trivial horizontal crack on his collar. Original easel stand on reverse appears never to have been unfolded. Measures 24.5" x 32".

Shipping: Large Flat (view shipping information)
