This fascinating object by the German painter Herbert Hamák comprises of a wooden, hand painted box, which contains three wooden, wing-like, lacquered objects and 23 pages of the exhibition catalogue ‘Inlandeis’, which was published by the gallery Harlekin Art in 1980. Hamák used red, golden, black or green lacquer to work on these pages, which are partly handwritten by the artist himself. This is a piece of art that reminds on Marcel Duchamp’s Boîte-en-valise.



The work of art is in very good condition. It shows the signature of the artist ‘Hamák’ as well as the date ‘1981’ and the edition number ‘14/20’ underneath the box. The overall dimensions of the box are 29.5 x 23 x 4.5 cm; the dimensions of each of the 23 pages are 27 x 20 cm.

Herbert Hamák was born in 1952 in Obereschenbach. His mainly abstract works were exhibited at international shows in Tokyo, Beirut and in Canada. Herbert Hamák lives and works in Hammelburg in Franconia.
