Herbert Hamák, Hot Wax Painting „Der Monarch I“, 1982
The painting by the German painter Hebert Hamák shows a forest, represented by three simplified fir trees on red ground. Special about this painting is the impasto, almost relief-like application of colours. Hamák uses the encaustic technique, also known as hot wax painting, that was notably used in the Ancient World.

The painting is in good condition. It shows some material-induced fissures in the wax and some flaking, especially in the edges. On the reverse side the painting is signed and dated “Hamák 1982” and features a hand-written title "Der Monarch I” “Der Wald" as well as a dedication “f. Dagmar v. J.“. The overall dimensions are 101 x 81.5 cm.
