Herbert Bayer untitled (Formation)
Herbert Bayer untitled (Formation) 1949 oil on canvas 23 x 32 Among all the artists to attend the Bauhaus, none lived the Bauhaus ideal of total integration of the arts into life like Herbert Bayer. Bayer contributed greatly to modern graphic design, typography photography, painting, and sculpture. Bayer attended the Bauhaus in 1921 and was influenced by Kandinsky, Moholy-Nagy and El Lissitzky. In 1925 Bayer returned to the Bauhaus to become a master in the school and in 1938 came to the United States becoming creative director at the Container Corportation and the Aspen Design Conference. The Formation series is an important moment in Bayer's mature style, showing his kinship with Bauhaus painters while predicting his future hard-edged style. A rare painting by the Bauhaus master. Signed and dated lower right. Framed.
