Bank check, 6.75 x 2.75, filled out in another hand and signed by publisher “Ticknor & Fields,” payable to H. W. Longfellow for $636, September 3, 1864, endorsed on the reverse in ink by the poet, “Henry W. Longfellow.” Nicely matted and framed with an engraved portrait of Longfellow to an overall size of 20 x 17.5. In very good condition, with folds, toning and soiling, and cancellation cuts and holes below Longfellow’s endorsement. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA and a photocopy of the front of the check. Ticknor and Fields was a Boston-based publisher with an impressive roster of authors in addition to Longfellow, including his fellow ‘Fireside Poets’ Lowell, Whitter, and Holmes.
