<B>Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: <I>The Song of Hiawatha</B></I></B></I> <B>with an Autograph Letter Signed Bound In</B></I> (Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1855), first edition, first issue, 316 pages plus 12 pages of advertisements, rebound in original brown cloth with gilt spine titles, 12mo (4.75" x 7.25"). The following first issue points are present in this volumee: "heron" on page 27 line 9; "In the Moon" page 32 line 11; "Wahonomin" on page 39 line 11, and page 268 lines 11 and 14; "Dove" on page 96 line 7; "Cooed the Omemee" on page 278 line 17; and with the "n" present in "one" on page 279 line 16. An 1857 ALS has been bound in at the beginning of the book along with the original envelope in Longfellow's hand. The letter is a polite refusal to deliver a poem reading. It is signed "<I>Henry W. Longfellow</B></I>". The book comes housed in a brown folder that fits into a custom brown quarter leather slipcase with gilt spine titles and five raised bands. The copy presented here is in very good condition, with minor edge wear present and mild toning to the text edges. The slipcase is in very good condition as well.
