<B> Collection of Henry W. Slocum Letters</B></I> Comprises: (1) Six ALsS: <I>"H W Slocum:,</B></I> three 1p, two 2p, one 3p, 5" x 8" to 5" x 8.75", 1875-1891, three undated. Concerning delivering a speech at Gettysburg, writing a book, Col. R.M. McDowell, meeting Civil war veterans, obtaining copies of the Hancock Memorial, and his inability to be present at an installation. One letter is tipped to another sheet, one has mounting remnants, and one is wrinkled. (2) Autograph Statement Signed: <I>"H.W. Slocum",</B></I> 1p, 5" x 8.75". Brooklyn, N.Y., June 8, 1891. In full: <I>"Gen Sherman was my commanding officer and my personal friend. His greatness as a soldier is acknowledged throughout the world - The last years of his life - spent in New York - endeard him to thousands for his social qualities."</B></I> General William Tecumseh Sherman had died in New York City on february 14, 1891. Glue stains and mounting remnants on verso resulting in show-through and some wrinkling on front. (3) Signature: <I>"Yours Truly/H. W. Slocum"</B></I> on irregularly cut 4.5" x 1.75" slip of paper affixed to a 6.25" x 9.5" sheet. "Harper's Ferry, Va./Nov. 25th 1862" has been penned in an unidentified hand at lower left of signature sheet. (4) Two different engraved bust portraits of Slocum. (5) <B>Daniel E. Sickles</B></I> ALS: <I>"D. E. Sickles",</B></I> 1p, 4.5" x 7", on his embossed monogrammed stationery. To Douglas Tyler. No place, September 13, 1853.
