Henry Trade Rifle .50 Cal NVSN
Early American percussion rifle styled after the popular plains rifles of the early 19th century. Features a heavy 37" octagon barrel, dovetailed blade front & rear window sight, wood ram rod, brass furniture, lightly engraved lock, scroll engraved trigger, smooth trigger and is mounted on a maple stock with cheek piece. The barrel is marked "HENRY" behind the rear sight, and the lock plate is marked "P.S.J & Co/[crossed branches]/WARRANTED" in an oval below the bolster and has a simple game bird scene at the tail. Henry and Philip S. Justice & Co., both of Philadelphia, where contracted with the U.S. government to provide rifles for annuity and treaty payments to Native American nations in the Antebellum Era. The somewhat ill fit of the components is consistent with the trade guns often purchased by the government for this use. The metal surfaces are primarily in the white with brown tones. Action performs well, bore appears to clear and wood stock are good showing small dents/ dings & two cracks extending from the left side of the breach. Condition is good to very good. ***Antique Firearm***
