British chemists, Roscoe (1833–1915) was noted for his early work on vanadium and for photochemical studies, and Schunck (1820–1903) was known for his work with dyes. Two ALSs, penned by Roscoe and Schunck on adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7.5, January 3, 1861. Letters of recommendation. Roscoe’s letter, in part: “Hearing that you are now wanting an assistant in your laboratory I beg to introduce Mr. Sachsland to you.” Schunck’s letter, in part: “The bearer of this is Mr. Sachsland, the young chemist of whom my cousin spoke to us when we were together…If you know of anything for him I shall be glad.” In fine condition.
