Henry Miller twice-signed ''To Paint is to Love Again: Including 'Semblance of a Devoted Past''', Grossman Publishers: New York: 1968. The 20th-century American author and artist signs both his self-portrait sketch and the autograph dedication he rendered upon the book's fly-leaf. Miller's bold black ink sketch of an unsmiling face throwing a sideways glance usurps the entire page and is signed: ''Henry Miller''. Miller labels the face's neck: ''Selbst Bildnis'', German for ''Self Portrait''. His autograph dedication to the upper left of the page reads in full: ''To Pierre / from his / 'sometimes' painter / friend / Henry Miller / 27/1/72''. Bound in khaki cloth boards with white and orange lettering and photographic endpapers. Encased in dustjacket with transparent protective sleeve and navy blue woven slipcase. Runs 117pp. and measures 8.75'' x 11.25''. Fine. Dustjacket is near fine, save for a small stain to rear and pencil notation to price. Sunning to open end of slipcase extends 0.5'' into front and rear panels, with lesser sunning to closed end as well, else near fine.
