Henry Miller Autograph Letter Signed, " Henry". One page, 8.5" x 11.0", March 17, 1976, Pacific Palisades, California to "Noel" (An anonymous recipient as actor Noel Coward died in 1973). One of the most prolific authors and controversial minds of the mid-20th century, Henry Miller (1891-1980), penned such works as "Tropic of Cancer", "Tropic of Capricorn", "Why Abstract?" and "Wild About Harry". The versatile Miller was also a painter of some note. This letter reads, "Just talked to Lisa Lii (not Lee) today. She just had a letter from her friend in Taiwan who had been in touch with the Chinese publisher there. The secretary of the publisher advised not to make royalties agreement as she doubted publisher would ever pay. He wants to know your terms...How does this strike you? $500 flat payment, half on signing contract, half on publication of book (The Taiwanese money is very poor, about $40 of theirs to one of ours.) Lisa was cheated out of $18,000 (American money!) So you see what one is up against dealing with them. I would receive my share and I would pay Lisa, out of my own pocket for translating. Let me know what you think so we can reply immediately. Hope the book is doing well. Everyone loves it. (Even Hoffman) He wants more copies - please take care of him, eh? Cheers!".
