(Henry Lee) American soldier & statesman, known as Light Horse Harry; cavalry commander in Revolutionary War; commanded troops that suppressed Whiskey Rebellion; father of Robert E Lee. His eulogy of George Washington included the famous words, "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen." Lock of his hair, 6 strands. Comes from a large collection of Lee family hair, dating back to Colonial times. Includes a copy of the original provenance, "This case contains the hair of Lucy Grymes Lee Mother of Light Horse Harry Lee, and of my great grand father Richard Bland Lee, given to his wife Elizabeth Lee by his ward Cornelia (Lee) Hopkins, who had received it in the case 1799 from Mrs Lucy Grymes Lee."
