Revolutionary War general and founder of the military school that became West Point (1750–1806). ALS signed “H. Knox,” one page, 8 x 13, November 16, 1785. Letter to Clement Biddle, written by Knox while serving as secretary of war for the Continental Congress. In part: “Gave the necessary certificate to Mr. Gilchrist to enable him to settle the account. I imagine he must have received the money, as I made the arrangement with the treasury board for payment instantly.” Intersecting folds (two vertical folds passing through a letter of the signature), an irregularly trimmed left edge, and overall writing just a shade light, otherwise fine condition.
