A concise biography of the artist is affixed to the reverse of the work, reads:
Genre and landscape painter in oil and watercolour. Born on 21st August 1855 in London. For three years he was apprenticed to O’Connor’s the glass painters, of Berners Street, London. First studied painting under William Bromley, and later in Paris under Bonnat and Cormon. Exhibited at RA from 1876. Elected RBA 1879 and RI 1886. Represented in several public collections. Lived in London where he died on 10th June 1924.
