Revolutionary War–dated manuscript DS, signed “H. Jackson Colo. Comd’t” and “P. Castaing Lieut.,” one page, 8 x 12.75, January 11, 1779. Document headed “Pay Roll of Lieut. Tho’s Lamb’s Comp’y of the Reg’t of Foot, Com’d by Henry Jackson Esq’r for the Month of Dec’r 78.” Certified at the conclusion by both Henry Jackson and Peter Castaing. In good to very good condition, with repairs to central separation, tears and paper loss to edges, and scattered staining. A desirable pairing of Revolutionary War figures: Jackson was a general from Massachusetts who led his regiment in the Philadelphia campaign of 1777, at Monmouth and Rhode Island in 1778, and at Springfield, New Jersey, in 1780; he also wintered at Valley Forge. Castaing was a French volunteer who served as aide-de-camp to General Louis Duportail, saw action at Valley Forge, and was taken prisoner at Charleston in 1780.
