Henry IV, also known as "Henry the Great" and "good king Henry", was the first of the Bourbon kings and is one of the most popular of French monarchs. His Edict of Nantes granted the Huguenots (French Protestants) substantial rights in a Catholic nation and effectively ended the Wars of Religion. Henry IV was assassinated in 1610 by a fanatic Catholic named François Ravaillac. His widow, Marie de Médicis, served as Regent to their 9-year-old son, Louis XIII, until 1617. This handsome document is in fine condition and is double matted with an engraving and framed to an overall size of 26.5" x 14.5".
