Real estate and railroad entrepreneur and president of the Standard Oil Company (1830–1913) who set out to make Florida the 'Newport of the South' by providing extensive rail access and grand hotels to lure wealthy vacationers. Partly-printed DS, signed “H. M. Flagler,” one page, 10.75 x 7.75, June 22, 1897. Stock certificate for one share of the Standard Oil Trust assigned to "Blake Bros. & Co.," featuring a handsome vignette of the United States Capitol. The receipt is affixed along the left edge. The reverse documents the 1898 transfer to Caroline Helen Parrish, wife of Archibald Manning Brown, the architect who designed the famed Heinz Dome at the 1939 World's Fair and the Harlem River Houses West in New York. In fine condition, with cancellation touching the signature, but not affecting its readability.
