Henry Deringer .40 Cal. Percussion Pistol c. 1835
This is an exceptionally rare earliest style original Henry Deringer Percussion Pistol in a .40 caliber dating to circa 1835 with a 3 ½ inch barrel. These distinctly designed pistols are shown in detail in several Deringer books, all having the round “bag grips” with checkering, fairly plain barrel wedge escutcheons, along with the back-action locks marked, “DERINGER PHILA.” as this rare piece does. All original pistols manufactured by H. Deringer have a seven-groove rifling in the barrel, as does this one. This is a deluxe example showing the classic original style with fancy burl walnut hardwood stock, engraved in the style on all metal parts as used on higher embellished H. Deringer pistols. This shows the wood ram rod intact, small original sights intact, in excellent mechanical functioning condition and is in all original fine condition and has never been cleaned showing the naturally dark aged metal with excellent markings. These very earliest Henry Deringer pistols rarely show up on the collector market and this one is original and in exceptional condition. Henry Deringer (1786-1868) was an Philadelphia, American gunsmith and is best known for his invention and namesake to the Deringer (Derringer) pistol. One of the finest examples available for purchase. Antique Firearm NO FFL.
