Henry Dearborn - Republican Institution (Massachusetts) A 1821 issued certificate for one share in "A Republican Institution in the Town of Boston." Black, with a vignette of an eagle holding a ribbon. It is signed by Henry Dearborn, as President. Dearborn was a Revolutionary War General who served with distinction. He later served in the United States House of Representatives from 1793-1797 and as Thomas Jefferson's Secretary of War from 1801-1809. At the outbreak of the War of 1812 he reentered military service, but his performance was a great disappointment. Dearborn, Michigan is named in his honor. This is an interesting and very rare document related to a political organization and signed by a significant figure in the early history of the United States. Extremely Fine.
