An interesting letter written by Revolutionary War veteran and Secretary of War relaying news from home and giving fatherly advice concerning a certain woman his son has designs upon: “I find that Miss C. makes very light of any contemplated connection with you, she says her friends would never have consented to her connection with you. I hope you will care as little about her as she appears to about you.” Dearborn also writes that “Mr. & Mrs. Mason and family are at our house, the President, Mr. Gallatin & Mr. Srisetts sic have arrived, Mr. Madison is expected tomorrow.” The letter has uniformly toned with age and the usual fold creases, else very good condition. From the collection of Henry E.
