Title is Sunrise across Penobscot Bay from Lincolnville Maine. Oil on board on paper. 8 1/4" by 10 1/4" framed. Henry Curtis Ahl, Jr. (1905 - 1996) was active/lived in Massachusetts, New Hampshire. Henry Ahl Jr is known for Landscape, coastal view and still life painting. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Henry Curtis Ahl was a painter, illustrator, and writer who was known primarily for his landscape painting. He also wrote and illustrated books on literary shrines and natural history subjects. He studied with his parents Henry Hammond Ahl and Eleanor Curtis Ahl and graduated with an A.B. from Harvard College. He was highly reclusive and lived with his parents near Springfield, Massachusetts until they died in 1953, and then he moved to a cabin on nearby land. He traveled later in his life, going to California, Florida, and New Hampshire. He was a member of the North Shore and Gloucester Art Associations.
