British General (1730–1795) who served as Commander-in-Chief in North America from 1778 to 1782. Revolutionary War–dated partly-printed DS, signed “H. Clinton,” one page, 15.5 x 12.75, July 31, 1781. Pardon granted to Archibald Nelson of New York for “all and singular Treasons, as well High Treasons as Petit Treasons, Rebellions, Insurrections and Conspiracies, against Us, our Crown, and Dignity.” Crisply signed at the conclusion by Clinton as one of the commissioners appointed to “grant Pardons to such of the Inhabitants of our Colonies in America as may have been in Rebellion.” The white paper seal affixed to the left side remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with toning and creasing along the bottom edge, and a small area of paper loss to a blank area affecting nothing.
