Henry Clay Document Signed "H. Clay" as secretary of state, one page, 8" x 12.75", June 11, 1825, Washington, D.C.. In the document Clay asks William B. Laurence to look into the matter of compensation for George Washington Biscoe for losses incurred during the War of 1812. The document is sold with a sheaf of photocopies regarding the loss of Biscoe's merchant schooner, the Speedwell, to the British man-of-war, HMS Oak Royal, and his claim, which was still unresolved as late as 1858. It is an interesting and researchable document, in good condition with some tearing at the folds.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
