Henry Blackwell - The Proprietors of the Woman's Journal (Massachusetts) This one share certificate.
Henry Blackwell - The Proprietors of the Woman's Journal (Massachusetts) This one share certificate was issued in 1870 to Isaac Ames and is signed as Treasurer by Henry Blackwell. The certificate carries a notation indicating that it was later transferred to Alice Stone Blackwell. Blackwell and his wife Lucy Stone founded the Woman's Journal in 1870. Under their guidance it served as a voice for the women's movement during the latter years of the 19th century. The Blackwells were associated with the more moderate wing of the women's movement. When a schism developed between them and more radical leaders Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone Blackwell founded the American Woman Suffrage Association in 1869. In 1890 the AWSA united with the Stanton-Anthony group to form the National American Woman Suffrage Association. This attractive certificate is an important artifact of the movement for women's rights in the United States. Extremely Fine.
