Henry Bergh 1869 Autograph Letter Signed as President of the ASPCA "Henry Bergh". Two pages, 8" x 10", on ASPCA letterhead, New York, May 29, 1869, to Dr. F. Seeger. In this letter Bergh accepts an invitation to speak and writes in part: "I feel honored by this request; and it being my practice never to decline doing anything, which I believe likely to favor the cause of mercy and compassion to our dumb and devoted friends and servants; I cheerfully place my poor abilities at your disposal...". Not only president, Bergh was also founder of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The letter is moderately toned, especially at the edges and has the usual fold creases, else very good.

Bergh's letter is offered along with a National Association of Audubon Societies nomination for life membership signed by then President T. Gilbert Pearson. The printed notification measures 5" x 8.75", and features a color vignette of a bird atop a tree stump. The second page gives a list of Audubon Society good works and the back page lists the directors and a roster of patrons and life members. This example has slightly toned and has a horizontal fold crease at the center, else it is in very good condition.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
