Revered Norwegian playwright and poet (1828–1906) whose works, including A Doll’s House and Hedda Gabler, made him one of the seminal figures in the forefront of modern drama. Scarce ALS in Norwegian, one page, 4.75 x 8.75, August 21, 1892. Ibsen writes from Kristiania to “acting director” Julius Jacobsen in Copenhagen. In full (translated): “In response to your most recent inquiry, I hereby want to notify you that I will grant you the right to perform ‘Ghosts’ during your imminent tour of Norway, as soon as you make a deposit of an 80 (eighty) crown honorarium to Gyldendal’s Bookstore in Copenhagen. The payment should be made, however, by the end of the month, as I cannot promise that my offer will stand past that time.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Ibsen’s hand. A touch of mild soiling and handling wear (small spot of skinning to top margin), otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
