Important French painter and printmaker (1864–1901) whose lively, colorful portrayals of the people and places of fin-de-siècle Paris take a place among the most iconic images of the era. ALS in French, signed “Henri,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, no date. Letter to his grandmother, in part (translated): "I thank you for the delicious pies that mom brought me from you. We will celebrate them as best we can by drinking to your health. I'm working hard all day, and am very happy to have a program to complete. Foreigners are decidedly very kind to painters. I have just sold two paintings to King Milan of Serbia. I will be able to put on my painter's cards of the court of Sofia, which would be all the more paradoxical that Milan is fallen." The paintings that King Milan IV purchased were 'La Clownesse Cha-u-Kao' and 'Au cirque dans la Coulisse.' At the time, Milan was living in exile in Paris. In fine condition, with a few tears which have been professionally repaired.
