French conductor and composer (1873–1949) who held important posts in the French musical establishment; he upheld mainly conservative trends in French music with his oft-used mantra, 'modernism is the enemy.' Rabaud's cantata Daphné won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1894. Vintage pearl-finish 4 x 5.75 portrait of Rabaud in a handsome head-and-shoulders pose, affixed to the original 8.75 x 12 mount, signed and inscribed on the mount in French in black ink, "pour monsieur Albert Bonneau, Henri Rabaud,” who adds three bars of music above. In fine condition.
