Eminent French artist (1869–1954), most closely associated with the Fauvist movement, best known for his colorful paintings, fluid drawings, and bold, distinctive cut-paper collages. Color vintage 4.25 x 6 postcard photo of Matisse’s ‘The Painter and His Model,’ signed on the reverse in black ink, “H. Matisse,” with a typed sentiment in French added above the signature which reads (translated): “My thanks and best wishes for 1953.” In fine, clean, condition. In this work Matisse depicted himself in his studio at work on his painting ‘Laurette in a Green Robe.’
