French philosopher awarded the 1927 Nobel Prize for literature. ALS in French, signed “H. Bergson,” one page, 5.25 x 7, March 21, 1912. Letter to Dr. E. M. Sait, writer and professor of Political Science at Columbia University. In full: “For several weeks I’ve been overwhelmed with work and haven’t been able to return the bibliographical list which you were kind enough to send me. It is remarkably complete and truly excellent. I only found it necessary to add the three indications you asked me for as well as the addition of a speech delivered at the Lycee Voltaire.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.

Sait had compiled a bibliography of Bergson’s work, and in 1914 published a book entitled The Ethical Implications of Bergson’s Philosophy. A typescript of the bibliography is included, with four handwritten corrections by Bergson, listing places and dates of publication. One reads, “’The Will.’ Speech given on the occasion of the awarding of prizes at the Lycee Voltaire, July 31, 1902.” In fine condition, with pencil notations and paper loss to envelope.
