Hendrick van Lint si trasfero a Roma agli inizi del secolo e qui rimase quasi stabilmente fino alla morte. Il Van Lint fu uno degli artisti prediletti dagli stranieri che partecipavano al Gran Tour, per i quali produsse la maggior parte dei suoi dipinti: le antichità romane, le vedute fluviali, la campagna laziale i paesaggi alla maniera di Claudio di Lorena. Among the travellers of the Grand Tour, Hendrik van Lint was one of the most sought-after painters. Many of his paintings of Roman ruind, excavations, river landscapes along the Tiber, and landscape in the manner of Claude Lorrain, catered to this taste.
