Hello Dolly Gene Kelly/Ernest Lehman Signed Photo
The mega-budgeted Barbra Streisand starring musical "Hello Dolly" (1969) spelled the end to the grand Hollywood musical for almost twenty-five years. It also virtually bankrupted 20th Century Fox Studios who was still licking their wounds from the out-of-control budget of the epic "Cleopatra". However, "Dolly" was indeed worth the time and money, and now is considered one of the all time great musicals. The sets were astonishing as were the costumes and the "big scale" production, all under the helm of director Gene Kelly. The massive "Don't Rain On My Parade" number is still considered the biggest in musical history. The studio created the largest street set since D.W. Griffith's Great Wall of Babylon set for "Intolerance". In the days long before CGI, actual real people had to be used, including thousands of parade spectators and over 5000 actual marching band members, culled for every college, high school, and community marching band throughout Southern California! This is a photo of that grand sequence, signed by both director Gene Kelly, and producer and screenwriter Ernest Lehman. It is personalized to Artie Kern, who was the movie memorabilia consultant to the Song Writers Hall of Fame from 1980-1993. 11"x14".
