Helen Sawyer began spending winters in Sarasota during the late 1930's with her husband Jerry Farnsworth. Both were already established as award winning artists and teachers in Cape Cod. During a period of more than fifty years while living in Sarasota, Sawyer continued to show in major exhibits and won awards with paintings hanging in many collections throughout the US, including the Ringling Museum of Art. Many people considered Helen to be the "Heart" of Sarasota arts community.
