Beautiful selection of four original costume sketches designed by Academy Award-winning costume designer Helen Rose for the 1952 MGM musical comedy The Belle of New York. The sketches, each approximately 15.25 x 22, are expertly accomplished in variations of graphite, ink, pastel, and watercolor, with approval initials and pencil notations present to the front and/or back. The sketches are as follows:

Actress Helen Kimbell wearing a gorgeous red gown with matching hat, samples of which are stapled to the upper edge, and the reverse stamped as “Prod. No. 1545, Sketch No. 8574, Name Helen Kimbell, Fitter Eva S., Date 5/22, Sequence Boardwalk Number.”

A model on ice skates dressed warmly with a long green-and-yellow winter coat, matching hat, and soft dark hand-warmer, samples of which are affixed to the upper edge, with the upper right marked with the name “Margaret Williams.”

Actress Shirley Glickman wearing a fashionable beige gown with blue accents and holding a matching parasol, samples of which are stapled to the upper left corner, and the reverse stamped as “Prod. No. 1545, Sketch No. 8594, Name Shirley Glickman, Fitter Kath. Mc., Date 5/22, Sequence Boardwalk Number.”

Actress Jean Corbett wearing a large red dress with a cream-colored blouse and matching hat, sample remnants of which are stapled to the upper left, and the reverse stamped as “Prod. No. 1545, Sketch No. 8570, Name Jean Corbett, Fitter Eva S., Date 5/22, Sequence Boardwalk Number.” In overall fine condition, with some wear and toning to edges, which could be easily matted out if so desired.
