TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Arcan Ridge letterhead, November 22, 1953. Letter politely declining an endorsement. In part: “I wish I might contribute to the New York Radcliffe Club Scholarship Project. But alas! I am not in a position to lend my name to any enterprise outside of my work for the blind. I can only send you and the Radcliffe Club my best wishes for the happy outcome of your endeavors.” Helen Keller was the first deaf-blind person to ever graduate from college and in fact, she graduated cum laude from Radcliffe in 1904. Nearly fifty years later, Radcliffe was still soliciting her and in this instance, she declined to make a donation. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, and some scattered light soiling.
