Helen Keller Signed: Helen Keller's Journal 1936-1937. (Garden City: Doubleday, Doran & Company, 1938), first edition as stated on copyright page, 313 pages, blue cloth with gilt, 8vo (5.75" x 8"), no dust jacket, signed on the second front free endpaper in pencil "Helen Keller". This book consists of Keller's journal from November 1936 through April 1937, the period just after the death of her longtime teacher and companion Anne Sullivan. In a June 1938 review of this book from The New York Times, Katherine Woods wrote, "…Miss Keller quotes a number of beautiful tributes to Anne Sullivan Macy, and all that she herself writes of her is beautiful. But the mere existence of such a journal as this is the one great and comprehensive tribute. Here in our own day is the true Pygmalion, more beautiful, deeper, more significant, than the ancient myth. It was the touch of life that the young teacher brought to the deaf and blind child half a century ago, and that touch goes on to other prisoned clay, and is itself undying." Very good condition with some light uneven toning to the endpapers.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
