Helen Corke. Songs of Autumn and Other Poems. Austin: University of Texas Press, 1960.
First edition. Signed by the author. Octavo. 71 pages. With line drawings throughout.

Charcoal gray cloth with gilt lettering on cover and spine. Minor shelf wear but fine overall. Dust jacket is chipped and rubbed at spine ends, edges, and corners. Textblock is sharp and clean with minor soiling to title page. Corke was a friend of D.H. Lawrence, who drew upon Corke's experiences in a relationship with a married man to write his second novel, The Trespasser. Corke's lover (David Garnett, a British writer and publisher) eventually committed suicide, presumably due to depression over his secret relationship with Corke. This issue of Corke's poems is accompanied by a 1970 snapshot of the author with her adulterous lover, David Garnett, in an outdoor setting.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
