Influential French composer (1803–1869) of such repertory staples as the programmatic ‘Symphonie Fantastique,’ the opera ‘Les Troyens,’ and the colorful ‘travelogue in tones’ Harold in Italy. Signed book: Les Soirees de L'Orchestre. Later printing. Paris: Michel Levy Freres, 1854. Softcover, 4.75 x 7.5, 435 pages. Inscribed, in French, on the half-title page to German portrait and historical painter, Wilheim Karl Juncker, and signed “H. Berlioz.” In fragile and overall good condition, with tape repair to separation between first free end page and half-title page, front cover attached by a single thread of binding, missing lower third of spine, scattered toning and foxing to covers and all inside pages, including signed page. Book is housed in a custom-made slipcase. An unusual format from the important composer who influenced Wagner, Liszt, and Mahler among others.
