Heavy barrel half-stocked percussion plains rifle, marked “L. K. Platt” on barrel, half-stocked, Partridge lock in as-found out of the attic condition. The gun is approx. .45 caliber rifled and measures 1-1/4” across the flat of the heavy octagon barrel. The barrel and lock show a heavy brown patina finish that has gone almost black with scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The stock shows weathering, damage, losses, longcarry, and smoothing where broken, darkening from campfires in buttstock, and general hard carry and use on the frontier. The stock has been repaired at the wrist by two screws, the action and lock are still working. Thereis a silver oval plaque inlaid into the cheek piece. Not a condition collector’s rifle, but a true frontier rifle. Provenance: James Gordon Collection, author of Great Gunmakers of the Early West. Est: $1,250 - $2,500
