Heavy barrel half-stock plains percussion rifle of good quality, utilizing 1855 Springfield lock with Maynard tape primer, dated 1859. Barrel marked “W. R. Strong”. The rifle is approx. .36 caliber, showing heavyround barrel measuring 1-1/8” across the flats, half-stocked in quality walnut with Pewter forend cap, nickel silver inlays, brass scroll triggerguard with double-set triggers. Nickel silver shield behind tangand other scroll type nickel silver inlays with two brass escutcheons around keys and brass buttplate. The metal surfaces show a dark brown patina finish, some scattered light to moderate pitting with some heavierpitting on the hammer and firing areas. The lock is well-marked, the stock is good to very good with a few scratches, darkened areas, normal wear. The gun weighs 14.5lbs.
