Heavy Barrel, half stock transition “Kentucky” to plains rifle marked F. Lehman, Lancaster PA on breech of barrel and lock with maker’s signature L. Biddle on top flat of barrel. The heavy barrel measures 30-3/8”, the rifle measures 46-3/4” overall, approx. .36 caliber rifled measuring approx. 1-1/8” across the flat of the barrel. The stock and barrel have both been set back or reduced during period of use. The rear sight shows repositioning and has been moved forward approx. 2” on the barrel when the owner’s eyes aged. The stock is of good quality and shows a nice natural striping with extensive German Silver disk type patchbox with oval-shaped engraved German Silver patchbox and many engraved German Silver inlays in classic American styles. The cheekpiece shows a nicely engraved American Eagle with shields and arrows. The top of the comb is sheathed in German Silver. The buttplate, toeplate, and mounts, are all German Silver. There are at least 20 German Silver inlays, most of which are lightly engraved and show typical American motifs of fish, spangles, geometrics, etc. The barrel and lock shows a brown patina finish with some pitting around the firing areas of the lock, minor erosion
