Offered in this lot is "Heath's Infallible Counterfeit Detector At Sight", 1883, Laban Heath. From a series running from 1864 to 1889, which aimed to assist the general public with detection of counterfeit paper money. Heath began writing the Detector books so people would have an original impression of a banknote to determine authenticity at sight. Not only would he use the plates to show what a real engraving looks like but he would describe what to look for in a counterfeit as well as the likelihood of a design feature to be successfully counterfeited. Also contains unnumbered advertising pages including ones for Heath’s magnifiers (with one illustration). Brown cloth bound gold gilt stamped hardcover is in good overall condition, staining and scuffing exhibited to covers, intact pages exhibit age tanning, ink staining noted to page edges.
